There can be so much stress put onto young people to decide what they want to do with their lives after they have left school and college. I have experienced this many times, and have been expected to have it all thought out. Yet, in reality this isn’t the case.
You don’t need to know what you want to do with your life or who you want to be. As a 16 year old teenager heading to college and having to choose subjects I enjoy and want to further study, I experienced mass amounts of pressure to choose the right subjects. I needed to choose subjects that would help further my career (which I didn’t and still don’t know what that is) and would push me into the right path. I faced the difficulty of getting the grades I needed to be able to do the subjects that I wanted to study. The majority of the subjects I wanted to do weren’t looking for specific grades, however in Psychology (which is one of the subjects I wanted to study) I needed to have a B in Science and Maths which unfortunately I only had a C in both,so I wasn’t allowed to take the course. This left me having to change my decision of what subjects to take at college. Sometimes some things just aren’t meant to be, so try not to be disheartened if it doesn’t work out or if you don’t get the grades like I didn’t.
I am coming to the end of my first year in college and I will be doing my AS exams in May/June. I will be starting to attend University opening days and applying for Universities soon, that’s if I decide I want to go to University as I’m still unsure whether I want to go or not and what I want to study if I do. I am currently thinking about moving to London to further my career and experience in Dance, however I am still unsure whether that is what I want to do with my life. I still don’t have it all figured out and at times I worry about not having any idea what I want to do, especially when I hear my friends talk about their plans for the future and what they want to do when they leave college. However, you don’t need to worry as you don’t need to have your future planned out and many people are in the same boat as me and you and are still figuring their lives out. You just need to take every day as it comes and grab every opportunity with both hands.
Remember you don’t have to have it all planned out!
